The term 'E-Learning' was coined when electronics, with the personal computer, was well-known and internet was still at its infancy. It is now a flourishing term in schools, universities, and SMEs education and training. As an example, about 3.5 millions of students undertook some or the other online courses in institutions of higher education in 2006 in USA. E-Learning is now defined as the use of network technologies to design, deliver, select, manage and broaden learning and the opportunities made available by the internet to offer to the users; synchronous and asynchronous learning, hence enabling people to access course content anytime and anywhere, provided there is an internet connection.
