Unique like me was written to foster a positive sense of self and belonging for children who may look different from their family members. It also serves to generate acceptance and an understanding of this for children who may not directly identify. There is a need to understand that children may look different from their family members due to multi-racial ethnicity, adoption and even blended family scenarios. This important subject is addressed for a pre-school-to-first-grade audience through light text, and photos accompanied by charming drawings. The back of the book features a "colour-me-in" map tracking the nationalities of parents and grandparents.
