Samenvatting:

This volume showcases a range of antiques - ranging from small works of art to rare decorative objects to precious period furniture - housed in some of the most extraordinary private residences in Italy. The homes of princes, scholars, antiquarians, professors, and magnates are presented in over two hundred of the best of images made by architectural photographer Mario Ciampi during the last twenty years. Most of these photographs are being published for the first time.
The residences range in scale from magnificent grand palazzi, like the Museo Mario Praz in Rome, home to an extraordinary collection of 1200 pieces of furniture, marble, bronze, silver, and crystal works of art, to relatively more modest homes like that of the renowned art historian Frederico Zeri, which contains a priceless collection of Roman epigraphs and a vast art and photography library. Echoing the pictorial images in venerable illustrated volumes on interior design, the photographs in Antiques in Italian Interiors depict intriguing objects and decor and capture the atmosphere and character of each residence.
Informative essays by Roberto Valeriani explore the relationship between the antiques and the spaces that house them. The text together with the photographs help the reader to understand how each residence can be considered a documentation of Italian taste in relation to history, whether on a large and epic scale, or a small private scale.
