Sarah Perse is a human wreck. Burned badly from an IED explosion during the Iraq war in 2004, she now lives a hermit's life in a small town in northern Idaho. Suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, too much drinking, and drug abuse, Perse serves as the town's nemesis and doesnt care much whether she lives or dies.While sprawled on the street after a night of drinking, Perse meets her next door neighbor's young daughter, Suzy, and something extraordinary happens. Suzy whispers to her, I know magic, and Perse begins to have vivid dreams that reveal visions of a new universe and a new presence in her life.Then Suzy vanishes and Perse gets blamed for her disappearance.
