Adult educators as teachers in the tertiary education sector and in the quaternary education sector as course leaders, trainers and group leaders, talk to students and learners and participants, clarify content and situations. This is reinforced with teamwork and project processes, including elements of consultation that result in a change in the learning culture. As early as 1970, the German Education Council's structural plan for the education system, which formed the basis of the "realistic turn" in educational science, stated that advising is a basic function of teachers. There are several reasons for this statement. There is an increase in the number of occasions for counseling. Modern societies are becoming ever more complex, resulting in changes such as individualization, multiculturalism and internationalization.Long-term life plans, educational paths and career paths require guidance. A different understanding of learning and innovative teaching and learning cultures in contemporary education management also result in self-directed learning and open forms of teaching such as learning workshops. The role of teachers is also described as advisor, moderator and guide.
