Samenvatting:

Autistic mothers are mostly invisible in literature and research, yet autistic girls grow up to be autistic women, many of whom become autistic mothers. Mothering is always challenging, but autistic mothering in a neurotypical world is fraught with many difficulties which are not recognised or understood. Like all mothers, autistic mothers need understanding, acceptance, and support to fulfil this important and most rewarding of roles.

This book is about an autistic mother who, because of the period in which she was born, was not understood, accepted, or supported. It's also an autobiographical account of her daughter's journey of reconciliation, through discovery and acceptance of her mother as autistic. The positive impact of this is seen in the daughter's acceptance and understanding of autism, which also influences her choice of career.

Like the cover of the book, it's about Kintsugi - the art of making something beautiful out of that which was broken. The journey of reconciliation has been a sometimes painful one, but 'treading on eggshells was never going to be comfortable or easy'.
