Samenvatting:

Finding Sleep is a poetic memoir of trauma, resilience, and the struggle to rest in a body shaped by fear. Sharmiley D. explores the lingering impact of childhood abuse, abandonment, and emotional silence—and how these early wounds can follow us into adulthood, even into the night. With lyrical prose and raw reflection, this book is for anyone who has struggled with trauma-rooted insomnia, misplaced shame, or the belief that healing must be perfect. It offers no easy answers—but it does offer compassion, clarity, and a map back to yourself, even on the nights when nothing else works.

About the Author

Sharmiley D. was born in Guyana to Caribbean Indian parents in an arranged marriage. She grew up in a culture where beating children was considered normal—where discipline passed as love, and silence spoke loudest. She believed all families were like this. No one said otherwise.

For much of her life, Sharmiley tried to see the good in others, even at the cost of her own wellbeing. Emotional neglect, punishment, and abandonment felt normal. But they weren’t.

Her healing journey led her to yoga, coaching, EFT, breathwork, trauma therapy, and spiritual practices from around the world. She draws inspiration from the work of Dr. Gabor Maté, Dr. Peter Levine, and Franz Ruppert.

Finding Sleep is her debut: a lyrical memoir for anyone who has been hurt and still longs for peace. Through poetry and reflection, she explores how to soften and survive after a childhood shaped by fear.
