The Emergence of BlackRock

BlackRock

"What he reveals, what he builds with small impressionistic touches, is the rise to power of Larry Fink, the master of the new financial behemoth, BlackRock. When I close my eyes and think of Larry and BlackRock now, the image that comes to mind is that of a Godzilla emerging from the mega-crisis of 2008 and advancing towards us. What makes this book even more distinctive lies in its genesis. It should never have existed. This comical and frightening object that you hold in your hands was supposed to be a preface, but things went awry. I became a helpless witness to what I felt was an attempt at censorship."

It is delicate for me to use this word, but in the end, that is what it was. And that is what motivated the writing of this improbable object. I will not dwell here on the facts and their sequence—that is not really the role of a preface. The book tells it.
