Worship and Wisdom for Formation and Flourishing

Old Testament wisdom and poetic books still speak to the soul

Walking faithfully with God cannot be separated from humans' deepest emotional and spiritual needs. The ancient authors and compilers of Psalms, Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Songs consciously addressed this reality in their time. Worship and Wisdom for Formation and Flourishing introduces Bible students to these rich OT books.

Cook and Meek offer guidance in understanding the Bible's wisdom and poetic books. Covering technical issues such as authorship, structure, and major themes, they also survey these texts with theological clarity and pastoral sensitivity, drawing out application for individuals, families, and congregations. They do so through different lenses, such as

• cultural context of the poetic tradition,
• literary analysis, and
• emotion research.

This book includes instructor resources such as syllabi, suggestions for weekly assignments, tested discussion-board topics, and several short online videos for each chapter.
